Restaurant review: Carmen’s Top of the Bridge

My wife and I eat out about twice a week depending on our social schedule. On occasion we like to do something special usually around a  date like a birthday or an anniversary or Valentine’s Day.

On this V-day I made an online reservation at Carmen’s Top of the Bridge thru Open Table. I have been there many times for Brunch and some dinners over the years. I had not been there in a while, we were in for a surprise.

The view is spectacular as the restaurant sits at  the top floor of the building. Great view of the ocean, Intracoastal waterway  and the Boca Raton hotel are afforded. It’s an expansive room with a large dance floor and they usually have live music.It is the type of place that you really dress up for.

We were seated at a properly set table with plenty of room. The music from the one man band was just right, covering a wide genre of  musical tastes.

The caesar salad was crisp with just the right amount of anchovies. The sweetheart salad was on the sweet side with goat cheese, baby greens and caramelized walnuts and very delicious according to the Mrs.

I ordered a petite filet with grilled shrimp. Served with baby asparagus and garlic mashed potatoes. The filet was perfectly cooked, so was the shrimp. The veggies were al dente. Presentation was immaculate, the Mrs. ordered the Porcini crusted Filet Mignon which was perfectly cooked and seasoned.

The problem we had was with the wait staff. Their english was extremely difficult to understand. They apparently had a hard time understanding the Queen’s English. We were asked to point at the menu items and to give them the drink numbers from the wine and liquor list.

Now I grew up in South Florida and I am of Hispanic descent so I am very conscious of minority sensibilities. However when you are paying good money for a meal you want the wait staff to understand you and you want to be able to understand them.

Also this place was so disorganized we had to ask for everything. There was a team of four gentlemen ” serving” our area but between them they could not get any orders out on time or to the correct table, it looked like a chinese fire drill.

We had to ask for dessert, coffee and the check because the “head” of this serving team was confused, lost and in over his head.

To add insult to injury they added an 18% gratuity to the bill. I normally add the address for a review but I will not be returning to this Keystone Cops disaster, no matter how good the food is.

What a country! One Million Morons

I am not gay but injustice and bullying from “groups” that want to tell others what is right for them is getting to the point that self interest groups are going to need lobbyists for their lobbyists.

Recently the group “One Million Moms” wanted  JCPenney to replace the recently hired Ellen de Generes as their spokesperson because according to them (and who asked for their fucking opinion?) Ellen is not a “true representative” of the families that shop at JCPenney.

Based on the families that I see at the my local JCP I would agree with their statement that Ellen is not a true representative. A true representative would be named Jose Shaniqua Sanchez Leticia Gonzalez Jefferson Pierre Saint Jean.

What I do not agree with is that they are arbitrarily pushing their weight around and trying to get someone fired because of their sexual orientation.  If Ellen likes to eat pussy, more power to her. God bless her and pass the dental floss.

This is part of what has been  happenning in America in the last decade or so. Due to social media, 1.75 million cable channels, internet and satellite radio and of course the world wide web groups can get their agendas out there and its part of the me,me,generation that has morphed into the we,we,we generation.

So we have self absorbed, selfish,egocentric “it’s everyone’s fault but mine” generation that wants attention to their cause but everyone has to join them, agree with them and piss on everyone that doesnt go with their agenda.

Look “One Million Moms”, if you do not like who JCP hired as their spokesperson  DONT BUY ANYTHING THERE. See how simple it is?

If every obscure group decides to flex their muscle about every little thing that frosts their ass we will have a country full of whinny self absorbed groups crying and bitchin about every little slight to whichever one of their sensibilities is currently offended. Wait! we have that already.

I dont care if my favorite department store hires Ricky Martin as their spokes- person. Just because Ricky likes the skin flute will not stop me from shopping there.

Hey Moms how about you do something constructive with your group and start a mentoring problem for after school? How about starting a food drive? How about volunteering for your local Hospice?

Moms take your conservative agenda and leave the rest of the U.S.A. alone,the 1950’s are not coming back, get used to it.

What a country! The GOP circus continues

Comedy and Political writers everywhere woke up with hard-ons or perky nipples this week when the results of the Minnesota, Missouri and Colorado caucuses came in and showed Rick “Sanctimonious” Santorum winning them all.

It was a shock because the pundits did not foretell that happening. They ASSumed that Mitt was going to take Minnesota based on his last go around there.

This GOP race has more mood swings than a cocaine addict on Lithium. It was Santorum in Iowa, Mitt in New Hampshire, NewNewt in South Carolina, Mitt in Fraudida, oops….. sorry , Florida. Now holier than thou Rickster has gained steam and has the old “Mo-mentum” on his side.

What was really interesting was who came in second ( Uncle Ron Paul) and a distant fourth, that Napoleonic mean-spirited Newt ( the outsider) Gingrich. People have finally seen thru his veil of arrogance and elitist attitude and have rightfully  kicked him to the curb in four states now.

So this will further muddle the GOP field and its going to be a donnybrook all the way to the end. The GOP voters are fragmented between the moderates and the conservatives. I will declare that it is going to be left up to the delegate convention before a clear front-runner is established or picked. There will be more backroom deals than at Wolfgang Puck’s bathroom in Hollywood.

The Hipster must be sitting in the oval office laughing his ass off.

The Great Obama Minstrel show

Dear readers I am sure you have wondered when I was going to get around to The Hipster or as he is more commonly known as President Barack Obama.

Now is the time that the new year is upon us, the elections will be this year. If I have to explain which election it is go back to your cave and keep smoking spice or keep doing whippets or peyote or LSD for you oldtime hippies.

Also as of this writing Mitt “The Robot” Romney has just kicked NewNewt Gingrich’s ass in Florida from the redneck capitol of North Florida to the Parrot Heads of Key West.

NewNewt promises to  campaign the rest of the 46 states and not give up but he is like a horn dog who keeps trying to hump your leg no matter how many times you kick him off.He just keeps coming back with that crazed dog look on his face, tongue hanging out.

But back to the Hipster I voted for him but I am supremely disappointed he did not carry out his mandate upon the first two years of his presidency. He tried to do the civil,humane, adult, responsible thing and tried to ” play with others”.

Unfortunately the Republican/Obstructionist party got together and give them credit,  they decided across the board to have the same message: We will not play ball with you, we will not pass anything you want, we will be the No, No, No party.

Of course the Rep/Obs did not care how many hard-working Americans they would hurt with this attitude but that party only cares about the rich anyway, so fuck-em all was their attitude.

The Dems did not want to roil the waters and instead of kicking the pricks into oblivion in the first two years of the Obama administration when they had a majority in both Senate and House, they just sat back on their laurels and lost big time in mid-term elections.

This gave the Rep/Obs a virtual hard on and they entrenched themselves even further in their smoky boardrooms and high falootin penthouses and created the budget impasse late in 2011 just for the hell of it, just to bust Obama’s balls.

So by the time the mid-term elections passed and the Hipster was dealing from a position of weakness he bided his time to see who the Rep/Obs were going to roll out as their Presidential candidates.

He must have sat in the oval office laughing his ass off when he saw the roster of morons, miscreants, reprobates, mental midgets, buffoons, adulterers, holy rollers, wannabees, blowhards, and media whores that was rolled out by the Rep/Obs. Is this the best they can do? He must have asked himself that.

He figured he has a cake walk coming up regardless of who wins the nomination.

Here is what I envision the Hipster saying at the first debate and obliterating Mitt “Lyle Waggoner” Romney:

My administration saved the American automotive industry by bailing them out.

My adminstration prevented the collapse of Wall street and the subsequent demise of world financial markets by bailing out the banks.

My administration prevented a recession from becoming a depression.

My administration finally pulled our troops from Iraq.

My administration eliminated Osama Bin Laden.

My administration has started the pullout from Afghanistan.

My administration put in safeguards so the money changers on Wall street have a harder time when they try to take advantage of the system and loot the coffers at the expense of the working man and the poor.

My administration has tried to do more for the disenfranchised that the last two administrations combined.

My administration has had the most diversity of any administration in history.

So I do not want to be in Mitt ” Dudley Do-right”  Romney’s position to answer to those points.

I will be vigilant and I will kick the Hipster in his ass if he screws up, fair is fair.

What a country! The world according to NewNewt

Revisionist history is in vogue now that Newt Gingrich is surging in the polls due to his good showing in the recent debates and winning the South Carolina primary thanks to the stupidity of that state’s  voters.

Really, how can a state that is predominately conservative christian vote for a guy who was a serial adulterer, was run out of office on ethics violations and was enough of a hypocrite to try to impeach Bill Clinton while he himself was having affair number two and was a check kiting specialist while a member of Congress? Goes to show you how ignorant the voters are.

NewNewt now ties himself to every great thing that was done in the last thirty years from electing Reagan to lowering taxes, curing Polio and helping the Red Sox win the World Series in 2004.

I will give him his props for the following: Capital gains tax cut in 1997 even though it helps the rich. Helping to balance the budget in 1998, Welfare reform and the Congressional Accountability act of 1995. Which of course did not help with his ethics violation “act” of 1997 that got him booted out of office.

He lights up when he has one over you whether you are running  against him or you are a reporter who he is chastising or abusing. He has the small man, small dick syndrome

He is a mean-spirited blowhard who thinks by saying “I made a mistake” and by going to confession at his newly acquired religion of Catholicism he can wash away all his sins, Hmmmmmm maybe that is why he and his new wife who by the way was his old mistress picked that religion.

The major beef I have is that NewNewt has reinvented himself as a Washington outsider,that is just hilarious,he could not be more of an insider if he crawled up Nancy Pelosi’s pants. Hope you are not reading this during breakfast, sorry.

He is harping on the elite while he is one himself, has a net worth of $6.5 million, made a “salary” of  $3.1 million in 2010 lives in an exclusive community in Mc Lean, Va. and is a preferred customer at Tiffany’s.

This guy has more memory lapses  than a  crack whore on Prozac.  And while you are at it Newt, pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease give the word “fundamental” a break, we all know you are a college professor and have a BA from Emory University and  PhD from Tulane but do not try to sound so elitist, Ha!

I think the Dems want Newt to win the Republican/Obstructionist party nomination because Ol’Newt or NewNewt wont have a chance against Obama.

What a country! Guantanamo Bay

Yes I know that Guantanamo Bay is out of the country but of course we run it, fund it to the tune of  $800,ooo PER captive and at this writing there were 171 captives there.

You do not have to do the math, it’s a shitload of money. But well spent or is it? The Obama wants to shut down that prison camp but for what reason?  Economic? Moral? Political?

Want to close it ? fine, give us an alternative. There was hue and cry from different parts of America when some of these terrorists were going to be house in high security prisons on the U.S. mainland ten years ago.

In keeping with the pussyfying of society where  E V E R Y O N E has a special interest group, where social media is used for good: the over throw of Syria, the bad:  the whinny, self-absorbed, selfish, self-centered, it’s all about MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE entitled society who if they do not get their way about anything its on You Tube in an hour, or Twitter or the blogosphere universe . The complaints about keeping terrorists on U.S. soil  was a whine fest.

The powers that be worried soooooooooooooooooo much about the whiners who did not want these bad terrorists in any U.S. land based prison that they said “fuck it” we’ll put them in Guantanamo, we wont have to answer to any of these manby pamby whinny motherfuckers who don’t want to put terrorists and war “detainees” in U.S. MAXIMUM security prisons so its  a naval base so problem solved.

Well not so fast Judge Advocate General it appears there has to be Geneva convention rules applied there. Can’t waterboard them because its inhumane. Detainees have to have their extra blankie or they will complain and stage a hunger strike.

Hey Ahkmed you are a fucking war criminal, you tried to blow up Americans in some part of the world, probably helpless tourists or put a bomb in a market place like the fucking camel dung eating coward that you are, you are in jail asshole! Jail, Jail Jail! so fuck you, be lucky you werent beheaded like the innocent journalists or “contractors” that are kidnapped in the flea infested shithole you call home.

So back to Guantanamo, the camp is rife with unrest because the rules were toughened because they took a way the spare blankie ( the God’s truth so help me) extra clothing was taken away and horrors! at medical appointments guards are shackling inmates by all four limbs ! Oh my GOD what cruelty!

Again Achnod stop to think, you are a captive of the U.S. government, they are humane enough to give you MEDICAL TREATMENT while you are in jail. And you are complaining because of the shackles?   Fuck you ! Would an American get the same treatment in one of your stone age jails? Would they be offered medical treatment? again, a hearty fuck you, that jail in Guantanamo has a roof, water, showers, food,recreation and medical treatment.

Can the jails in Zafranistan or whatever camel infested country you were dropped in a field from between your mothers legs when you were hatched have any of the comforts you have in Guantanamo? Can the town you were raised in even have running water?

Captives have threatened  to stage sit-ins, refuse meals and hang protest signs for these abuses. I say don’t feed them for a week, take away their beds so they can have sit-ins 24/7 and hang the protest signs around their necks every waking moment they have. See how tough they are then.

Lawyers for CIA detainees are complaining that the mail between them and their clients are being meddled with. Too bad you are in jail, lucky you get mail be happy they give you writing material. You don’t have rights ,you are a WAR prisoner, you are a terrorist.

We still have the war tribunals coming up for Abdal-Rahim al Nashiri the USS Cole bomber and  Khalid Sheikh Mohammed the*cough* ALLEGED *cough* 9/11 plotter and his four cohorts, Moemad, Kurly, Lharrry and Shemp. But seriously, G-Bay will be open for a while and as well it should. Keep them there till they rot or are found guilty and give them the death penalty.

Gene Simmons, leader of rock and roll band Kiss, “star” of a reality show, another self-important hack, face that  makes babies cry and that is without the KISS makeup.

The Kardashians, pick one, pick all, talentless family famous for being famous. Some take off their clothes, others are basketball groupies.

Bruce Jenner, former Olympic athlete, resembles Ming the Merciless after 27 plastic surgeries, has to live with Mama Kardashian.

O.J. Simpson, former Heisman trophy winner, NFL star, movie star,person of interest in wife’s murder, moron, egotist, never to be confused with a Mensa member,current jailhouse resident due to major stupidity.

Rob Schneider, talentless dwarf who rode a few year’s of SNL gravy train to do movies and standup, both failed miserably.

Al Sharpton, reverend(cough)political activist(cough) civil rights activist ( gag me) who rode liar Tawana Brawley’s bullshit story farther than anyone could have.

The Jersey Shore gang, pick any of the self-absorbed morons, you can’t go wrong with any of them.

The Survivor contestants, really? how about joining the real world? Is your world that dull that you have to Tivo this show?

Hugh Hefner, used to be a hero but Hef, please date someone older than your bed stains.

restaurant review, The Station House

Located at 1544 S.E. 3rd Court  Deerfield Beach 33441

Found it by accident when we went to The Cove and it was closed for the holiday.

A real service oriented place with linen napkins and great attention to detail. A “team” consisting of four servers takes care of you. Drinks were generous and reasonable. We had twin lobster tails for $27.95 and a Pasta Primavera that was cooked perfectly and the vegetables were al dente, not soggy or overcooked at all.

We never had to ask for water-glass or bread refills. I would suggest reservations as dinner time gets pretty crowded.

Golf Course review, Royal St.Cloud

Located at 5310 Michigan Avenue in St Cloud features three 9hole courses with a distinct links flavor. It has the British side, Irish side and Scottish side.

The entire staff is very friendly unlike some of the cranks encountered in some South Florida courses.

The groundskeepers should be lauded for the condition of the course from tee to green.

The restaurant has a varied menu and again the staff was friendly and accommodating.

A great value too, we played on Jan 1st and the cost per player with cart was $20.00

The Republican comedy show continues,What a Country!

Well kids the comedy just keeps on coming from those crazy kids running for President in the Republican primaries.

 Ron Paul,Mitt Romney,Rick Santorum,Newt Gingrich and Michelle Bachmann.Should come out of the Iowa caucus in that order based on polls out at the time of this writing. Coincidentally I feel they will finish in the same order  just based on gut instinct and observation.

Where is Rick Perry you ask? The king of comedy did another “oopsie” this week when he drew a blank when asked at a campaign stop about Livingston v. Texas the landmark 2003 Supreme Court case that overturned that anti-sodomy law in Texas where a certain Rick Perry was governor at the time.

I think this guy was put in the race by the Republican strategists to make the other candidates look smart.

Back to the stalwart candidates. Ron Paul will probable edge out Mitt for the Iowa caucus because he is very conservative and a bit quirky. But do not go by who the Iowan’s pick, here are a couple of their past choices: 1988 they picked Bob Dole first, Pat Robertson, yes THAT Pat Robertson second and the  Republican Party nominee that year and eventual President ,George Herbert Bush, third. As recent as 2008 the Iowa winner was……………Mike Huckabee, you can now catch him on Fox news trying to stir the conservative masses.

Herman Cain took the advice in an earlier column of mine and dropped out of the race. White women beware!

Rick Santorum has made huge gains and even passed that old hack Newt Gingrich in the polls. The mean streak, the past infidelities and the suggestion that poor minority kids become janitors at their own schools for pay just might have done ol’ Newt in.

Rick Santorum is pretty scary, a sanctimonious right winger who got involved in the Terry Schiavo mess, is against stem cell research, is against gay marriage and gay adoption and of course if he is all against that he has to be against…………….you guessed it, abortion.

It will be interesting to see who rises to the top out of this gang.

I am looking forward to the Iowa caucuses like a junkie looks forward to meeting his dealer.
