Review: Lock Stock and Barrel restaurant

We go there at least twice a month at dinnertime. Reminds me of New York style steakhouses. Linen on table and napkins. proper utensil setup, salad fork, dinner fork, knife, steak knife, spoon and dessert fork. Fresh loaf of bread with real butter served in a dish, not wrapped in foil.Try getting any of the above at Friday’s

Chef Lucinda Bell is very eclectic with her culinary creations. Food is perfectly cooked whether it is steak, fish or pork. Salads and appetizers are generous . Reasonably priced.

Daily and weekly specials. Great bar, a bit noisy though ( which bar isn’t?)

Very laid back no rush type of atmosphere.

Only complaint is the service is spotty, staff turnover seems high considering we have had the same server twice in about 20 visits and we go on the same night every time.

will we return? yes

Bachmann and Trump…………rut roh

Well the Donald has been vetted with no clothes on. Apparently his story about having a high draft number and therefore not getting drafted for Vietnam is falling apart like a Rolex purchased on Times Square.

Seems like the Donald obtained four medical deferments in spite of being quite the athlete in college. Let’s see what spin he puts on this baby. Guess the ever rolling karma wheel is rolling towards the Donald’s heels on this one after he kowtowed to the birthers and wailed and strutted like a peacock onto the national headlines about Obama’s birth certificate.

I had not written about Michelle “Barbie ” Bachmann until now because I did not really know much about her and what little I did know begged the question: ” how in the hell did this genius ever get elected to office?” I am sorry folks but I do not think the people of Minnesota had on their headwarmers for this election.

I will not spend a lot of my valuable words on someone who has the views that she has. All I will say is that she is the “Stepford wife” of politics.

Millionaires versus Billionaires= Greed

This NFL lockout is a tragedy of Medea like proportions. the “revenge” that the owners (Billionaires) are trying to extract from the players (Millionaires) is from a collective bargaining agreement that all parties AGREED to and signed off on in 2006.

Now the owners have woken up with collective bargaining agreement remorse or CBAR and want to scuttle the deal because they are giving away too much to the players. Its like hiring  a call girl, getting it on and then trying to negotiate the price down.

The NFL takes in 9 BILLION dollars a year, the owners take 1 BILLION off the top for expenses *cough bullshit cough* then the kitty is divided up between teams and players  60/40.

Also the owners want to expand to an 18 game season and cut out two pre-season games.. The players do not citing injuries and shortened careers. The preseason games are a farce because scrubs and players that will never see the light of day in the NFL play in those games. You say don’t go to them? The owners MAKE you buy tickets to that charade by jamming them into the season ticket package. Its like getting it in the rear without vaseline. Thanks you greedy son of bitches.

Its like buying tickets to see Cher and having to put up with a RuPaul for an hour.

The players are not entirely without fault either. They knew this was coming, they should have put some money away for a rainy day. And they should have had a stronger union ,complete 100% player solidarity and a public relations program than should have been national and started one year prior to the lockout date.

The irony is that some of these owners extract or extort? I am not sure which from municipalities to get financing and tax breaks  to build their stadiums with the promises of  jobs or the threat of relocation.

The television networks treat the NFL like a junkie treats his supplier, anything you want Master. Dont  screw with that cash cow. Have to sell more commercials for beer and Doritos.

And the public? just as guilty, during the last work stoppage in 1987, as soon as the players came back the crowds came back too, like the lemmings that they are. Dont forget the owners at that time tried to pass off scrubs, castoffs, semi-invalid, losers, grocery baggers, truck drivers and UPS drivers as  professional  NFL  players, they have no shame.

Gentlemen, do not kill the golden goose, don’t be so damm greedy, look what happened to hockey, it took years for them to get it together after their work stoppage, learn from that.

Charlie Sheen

The next television show Charlie should start in is Intervention with him as the person needing saving. Is this guy out of control or what?

You talk about a guy whose success went to his head, I thought David Caruso went swellheaded a few years ago but this moron is over the top, overrated and over medicated.

Charlie baby, you are not saving lives, you are not curing cancer, you are not feeding the hungry, you are a television star and a sorry excuse for a human being the way you treat women. Does Denise ring a bell?

How about the current Mrs. Sheen, Brooke?

You are out of control son. The over -under from Vegas on whether you wind up overdosed in a hotel is six months. I will take the under.

I have seen some of the excerpts from your live tour show and you are not funny. Do you realize its the writers from your t.v. show that made you funny?

Only thing you’ve done good is employed out of work porn “actresses” . If you can call slurping the big tube steak protein shake “acting”.

Hey maybe you can christen one wing of the Betty Ford center the “Charlie Is Not An Angel ” wing.

Do some good with your fame and money honey, make your Papa proud.

Gang of Six

Well blow me down and call me shorty! There are some senators that are actually doing something good  for the american people that has nothing to do with special interests. And they are doing it with bipartisan appeal. BRAVO!

Senators Saxby Chambliss of Georgia,  Mike Crapo of Idaho, Tom Coburn of Oklahoma, Kent Conrad of North Dakota, Mark Warner of Virginia and Dick Durbin of Illinois have been working behind the scenes to craft a true bipartisan solution to the nations debt problem.

They are trying to bring forth a proposal to reign in the national debt which as of this writing is at 14.3 Trillion dollars, yes pilgrim that’s TRILLION.

What is so different is that three of these gentlemen are Democrats and three are Republicans but they are working together instead of the trench warfare that has been the norm in D.C. since the last presidential election. I thought the Hatfields and the Mc Coy’s were having a silly fight until I saw the antics of the current congress.

It will be tough and there has to be some sacrifices in all aspects of our lives such as defense, health care safety net and Social Security.  Some groups are going to squeal like Ned Beatty in Deliverance, some groups will spread misinformation like a publicist for Charlie Sheen.

I hope that when the proposal gets to D.C. that it is given a fair chance by all. We need to make sure we do not spiral into a financial morass that will drag the entire world economy into a recession or worse yet a depression.

Sailfish Marina review

Singer Island Fl

We go there at least once a month.

Has been in existence since 1952, marina, resort, restaurant, docks, ship store

Will review the restaurant and ship store here,  the resort at another time.

Beautiful, airy restaurant, two bars that are a bit noisy, outside patio seating.

Great view of Peanut Island and busy waterway.

Service was dreadful. I had to ask the hostess to find our server after a five-minute wait.

The drinks took a long time to arrive.

The entrees and appetizers arrived at the same time after another long wait.

The food was fresh, tasty and almost worth waiting for.

Ship store has the usual sundries for those travelling, the usual touristy nick knacks and some original and unusual marine decorations.

Will return? In spite of service, yes

Jupiter Dunes golf course

A par 54 little jewel near the ocean. All par three’s, the  shortest is 67 yards.Longest is 171.If you want to work on your short game this course is a good test. Undulating greens for true test of putting.

In excellent shape. Plenty of walkers, riding carts are available.

Pro shop has the essentials if you forget anything for your game.

No food, no bar, vending machines with usual fare.

No tee times, first come, first served.

These are the candidates?

The field for the Presidential race is starting to take shape much like the races before the Kentucky Derby determine who is in that prestigious race. Except there are true horses’ asses in the Presidential race and real horses in the Derby.

So far we have Mitt Romney, who reminds me of Lyle Waggoner on the old Carol Burnett show — all looks, no substance.

Newt Gingrich who has been accused of adultery, insensitivity, callousness, and a vision narrower that the blinders put on the horses in the Derby.

We have Sarah Palin who gives 65-year-old white bread Republican males the only hard-on they get monthly without the help of Viagra. Good ol’ Sarah makes Pamela Anderson look like a Nobel Peace prize winner.

Donald Trump, what can I say? Ego? Check. Cute wife? Check. Cute kids? Check.  Money? Check. Insufferable blowhard? Check. Will he win? Probably, but he would have to take a  huge pay cut, don’t think he has “los huevos” to do so.

The Dems? They have the great disappointment, a man who went in with such promise such a majority, the people behind him, a man who made history with his candidacy. While much must be said for his effort at trying to build bridges and consensus when he saw that the Republicans had turned into the NO party, he should have taken that steel fist and put it in a velvet glove and pounded the living shit out of the opposition when he had the chance.

Now the Dems do not have as much power as the first two years of President ICOULDHAVE’s term. They are now scurrying like rats on the Titanic trying to save their country club lifestyles, lifetime retirement, lifetime pensions, and lifetime medical benefits. We the people should have the same opportunity to get medical benefits at a decent price. After all politicians aren’t curing cancer or saving the world are they? We the people need to stop treating them like deities. They take off their pants one leg at a time like we do.

Instead of “Yes We Can” they should have the slogan: “Damn We Could Have.”

I am looking forward to more candidates declaring their intentions to run, the loonier the better. I once ran  for office in my town and I said that when I was little I had two aspirations, to be in the circus and to be in politics. Little did I know they were one and the same.

What is Governor Queeg afraid of?

The governor of Florida finally agreed to a prescription pill  registry and I will give him props for finally caving in to the will of the people, the legislature, common sense, public opinion, law enforcement, the FBI, the corner hot dog vendor and Mrs.Mc Gillicuddy.

He keeps harping that he is concerned about the privacy of those who get prescriptions. Let me get this straight he is worried about the identity of the drug addicts and dealers who drive all the way down to South Florida to get thousands of Oxycontin  pills and  the like?

Who is in so much pain that they need a thousand pills every three months? C’mon Guv.

Really? He wants to protect the identity of addicts and dealers? Really? C’mon Guv, why don’t we publish the names of the doctors writing prescriptions faster that a traffic cop writing parking tickets in midtown Manhattan?

This guy is worth watching, notice when he does interviews on TV, he doesn’t look straight into the eyes of the questioner, he looks off in the distance. I think I see a reason to check for pods in the back yard of the governor’s mansion.
