How the Hell Do they Get Away with This?

Read in yesterday’s newspaper that taxes shrink for the ultra rich. And I quote, “The super-rich pay a lot less taxes than they did a couple of decades ago, and nearly half of U.S. households pay no income taxes at all.”

What in the hell is going on here?

Why aren’t people truly revolting? And I do not mean the lemmings that follow Beck or Limbaugh, those are Wal-mart trailer trash that follow whatever the O’Reillys of the media tell them to follow, guess it gives them a sense of belonging to a cause since they do not have a life.

The tea party (or the tea baggers as I like to call them) should be planning to run all these millionaires out of office instead of going after the people who are in office for the greater good, trying to give us a decent life and a chance to prosper.

Eric Shoenberg who teaches a business class at Columbia University made a little over $200,000 last year and paid $2000 in taxes. I made less than a quarter of that and had to scramble, donate, give away and scrounge for deductions and I still had to pay $1000 in taxes and that is with home ownership too. What the hell is wrong with this system?

Of course Beck, O’Reilly, and Blowhard are getting RICH all this time. Nothing wrong with that, but don’t do it on the back of the working man. They attack  the system which is making them rich in the first place and then become hate mongers and hypocrites to boot.

Remember how Bimbaugh railed against homosexuals in the Army?  Well he did not have any problem paying Elton John 3 million dollars to play at his wedding — that’s hypocrisy.

Of course Bimbaugh was not in the Army, he had deffered service, just like he railed at Clinton about. At least Clinton was a Rhodes scholar.

Bimbaugh also said he would move to Canada if Hillary got elected. I voted for her just because of that — would have liked to see his fat ass freezing up in Canada . Oh wait you cant go doctor shopping in Canada can you? But I digress…………………………….

Did you know that during the Eisenhower administration the top income tax rate was 92 percent?

92% 92% 92% That is ninety two percent !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bottom line: everyone should pay their fair share of taxes, especially corporations.

Restaurant Reviews for Boynton Beach and Las Olas: April 9-10, 2011

First we will review Two Georges in Boynton Beach thanks to one of my customers who invites me and the missus to dinner every year before he heads back up. Thanks, Arthur.

Great location — right next to the Ocean Avenue bridge. Has free valet parking, but you have to endure a maze to get to it.

Has boat docks for those that want to come in on the water.

Raucous atmosphere, 2 large bars  (one with live music), but family friendly.

Seafood/Caribbean flair, salads, sandwiches, dinner entrees. Did not have raw bar offerings, surprisingly.

Excellent cocktails, priced moderately.

We had slider burgers, Thai shrimp appetizer, snapper, and conch salad. Everything was okay, nothing spectacular, but nothing bad either. Service was good considering how busy they were.

Will we return? Yes!

Next we will review Big City Tavern in Las Olas:

Went on a Sunday afternoon to meet my sister and brother-in-law for drinks, wound up having dinner.

Location north side of Las Olas across the street from the Riverside Hotel. Busy, bustling street, with lots of people watching possible. Walkers, joggers, bicyclists, dog walkers, strollers families, couples on dates. Best to park behind the north side of the street where the parking lot charges $5 for the entire day — in case you want to go strolling afterwards.

Busy bar, trendy, young professionals — a bit noisy but not overbearing.

Drinks a bit pricey, some of the food was moderate in price, some was a bit high ($24.00 for an 8 oz. steak).

We had two snapper dishes, both very good. Three appetizers: calamari was good, tomato and mozzarella salad was drowned in balsamic, and the meatballs were tasteless. Of two steak dishes that were ordered, one had to be sent back for warm up because it was cold to the touch. Dessert was very good.

Service was sporadic. I asked the waiter for separate check and he brought me a check for the whole table. The waiter was gone for 15-20 minutes at a time. The wait staff did not want to put together a table for six, they wanted to cubbyhole us in a circular booth which we did not want.

Will we return?  Maybe.

Breakers East 04/10/11

What can I say about The Breakers golf course? Impeccable service, fantastic grounds keeping, attention to detail…

Course in great shape, fairways like carpets, greens rolled true.

Was not too thrilled with the drink cart — no sandwiches on board (had to be ordered), did not have bloody Marys on drink cart either. When they did bring the bloodies, they tasted like cocktail sauce (yuck). Had to get a can of tomato juice to weaken it (which they also didn’t have on board).

Lunch afterwards at the Flagler Steakhouse upstairs offers a spectacular view of the area but very pricey — $16.95 for a grilled cheese sandwich — and service was a little slow.

After midnight

Well it looks like those hard-working folks up in Washington hammered out a proposal late last night to keep the government open.

What is mind-boggling is that the hold up was over Planned Parenthood

In case the Republicans had a bout of amnesia: Federal law prohibits the use of government money to pay for abortion services please read that again.

So an organization that helps AVOID unwanted pregnancies by planning and counseling (therefore eliminating the need for an abortion, duh) has the Republican  party trying to cut of the funding for staffing and programs???????. AGAIN, none of those funds can go towards actual abortions, does this make sense to anyone?

What is disheartening is that the Dems are trying to be nice and fair and trying to be civil and hold hands and sing Kumbayah instead of using their majority and the power of the White House to get legislation thru.

And this fight is over the promises made to the tea baggers to cut the budget, hey lets start by taxing the richest 1% of the country, what a concept!

Lets have large corporations like GE pay some taxes……………..what a concept there!

Lets NOT have tax breaks for the rich. I know the rich donate to the political parties and there has to be some payback but the average working Joe is carrying the tax burden on his 401k if he even has one left.

That will help balance the budget somewhat

There you go Guv’nor

In today’s paper I was reading about  the emergency funding that was needed to keep the courts in Florida operating and staffed.

I had to chuckle at the quote attributed to Governor Queeg “I got surprised by the court’s budget shortfall,” said our fearless leader.  For a guy that ran his campaign on the “I am a businessman and will run the state like a CEO,”  he sure sounds to me like he wasn’t on top of the ball on this one. If he runs the state like he ran his company….oh wait, guess he doesn’t remember how well his company  Columbia/HCA was run when they settled this little matter of errouneous Medicare billing for 14 counts of fraud to the tune of $1.7 billion…..oops.

Maybe it was all the time he spent closing the pill mill database or the pill mill task force or the bullet train in central Florida, maybe that stuff was more important than keeping the courts open with staff and judges…..yes, I think courts need judges to handle things.

I will also lay blame for this at the feet of the Florida voters who actually voted for this guy. Shame on all of you! I do not believe I have ever seen a governor of Florida who incurred the wrath of so many people in such a short time after his election.

And the tea party ignoramuses who voted this genius in office?  Well, he is cutting 1700 jobs in the corrections department, so it might take a little longer to go visit cousin Jethro in the state lockup there, sweetie.

And he wants to cut a total of 8700 jobs in government. And he ran on a get more jobs platform?  Somebody wake me up, I expect Rod Serling to pop out of a corner anytime and say “Submitted for your approval, a man will run for office who had no experience in politics, ran his company so well that they were fined by the federal government, and spent $70 million dollars of his own money to get elected. He will be vague about his programs until after the election and he will cut education, cops, and entitlement programs within a few months of being elected and he will win this election.” Would you vote for this guy? Apparently so. The Twilight Zone has nothing on Florida politics.

While mentioning Florida politics, I want to warn you that very soon I will be mentioning what is probably the weirdest town in Florida for politics — Lake Worth, I would have to compare it to Alice in Wonderland on peyote and steroids. Too bad Hunter S. Thompson went to that big watering hole in the sky, he would be perfect to cover that little town that makes Twin Peaks look like Mayberry R.F.D.

Profiling? Categorizing?

It appears that for simplicity or for taking sides, it has come to two views of everything and no one seems to want to either meet halfway or compromise.

There is:

liberal/conservative

pro-life/pro abortion

tree huggers/oil drillers

gun nuts/peaceniks

religious zealots/atheists

and the biggest of all: Democrat/Republican

At some point in time I am sure that someone will try to categorize what I am, all I can say is good luck with that. I promise to give you a headache with my views.

I believe in  workers unions, welfare with conditions (not indefinitely) government assistance with same conditions as welfare.

I am for same-sex marriages and that those people should have the same rights ( insurance, 401K, benefits) as other married couples .

I believe in Pell Grants, minority set asides ( of course the way we are going, minority set asides will soon be for W.A.S.P.’s only).

I believe in protecting the environment while finding ways to free ourselves from the oil barons, we have the untrustworthy Middle East sheiks ( and I will soon blog about their religious zealotry) and the psychotic despot in Venezuela who can cut our oil supply just like a crack dealer trying to get more production  out of a crack whore.

But I digress, obviously the above is my liberal side, on my conservative side I believe in the right to bear arms, the right to use force to quell insurgency, I believe that America has been and shall always be the World’s policeman. When the proverbial feces hits the fan , who does everyone ask for help? they ask the good-ol U.S. of A. even those American hating snotty French cowards call for us to bail their armpit smelling asses out. However I believe we should take care of home first, we should not have homeless veterans, we should not have any child starving and missing meals and missing basic dental and medical care. We should not have the mentally ill dumped in our streets. And we should have quality education for all.

We should not send a nickel overseas until we have taken care of business at home FIRST, after that, help the world, we always have, we always will.

I believe in the death penalty, you kill, well its the karma wheel running your ass down until it crushes you like a bug. Now they are looking at how the death penalty is administered because of glitches, the criminals scheduled to die suffered an agonizing death.  Really? Really? ask those inhuman monsters if they asked their victims if they were suffering while they were being murdered, raped, set on fire, chopped up, decapitated or sodomized? If they suffered when it was their turn, too  bad, karma is a bitch baby. And don’t even go to the ” I had a tough childhood defense” everyone knows you don’t kill, its wrong everywhere on the planet. Only time it is ok to kill is in self-defense or war. The only thing I agree with those barbarians in the Middle East is their system of justice, you kill, you are killed, you steal, you lose a hand, you rape, you lose your balls.

I believe in a LOAN to bail out any large corporation that could impact the economy and the stock market adversely. Loans are to be paid back with interest. I DO  NOT believe in bailing out the gamblers and speculators on Wall Street. You made bad investments?, you sold worthless derivatives?  Too bad, go back to Business 101 you moraless bastards. The government should not have to bail you out after you gambled and lost. I don’t go crying to the government after the Hard Rock casino leaves me broke after another blackjack crash and burn.

I believe the elected officials everywhere should have the same medical plan, retirement plan, and benefits that the average working Joe gets. They should not have free health insurance or lifetime benefits at our expense ,their job is not that hard, try being a policeman, fireman, soldier, ER surgeon and the hardest job around: a teacher in middle school. Those folks deserve our gratitude and appreciation.

Anyone caught doing a Ponzi scheme should be in a tough prison like Sing-Sing or Alcatraz used to be, no federal country club. And their victims, no refund from the government, you made a foolish investment without doing due diligence, shame on you. Anyone involved in a Madoff like scam should have to be in jail’s version of Dante’s Inferno. We are the only mammals on the planet that purposely go out of our way to screw other mammals out of their riches. If these ripoff artists spend as much effort on a true profession as they do on a scam they could be rich & successful.

As far as the Democrats versus Republicans that is going on right now, I will say that both sides do not appear to be able to meet in the middle or concede any ground. All I can say is that neither party is doing what is best for America and americans, their agenda seems to be to grind the other party into the ground, that is not in the voters best interests is it?

And the tea baggers? they voted in the people who are going to cut funding to the very programs they are endeared to. I loved the “spontaneous” tea bagger revolts this past year, the genius with the sign that said ” I want the government to keep its hands off my Medicaid” who do you think runs Medicaid Einstein? Who do you think created it?

Well I hope that can give you some idea of what I think, adult discourse is encouraged.

Captain Queeg in Florida

In Florida we have a newly elected governor who absolutely has ignored the mandate of the voters and cancelled a high speed train project between Tampa and Orlando with later on down the road( no pun intended) a track heading south to Miami.

We had partial funding from the feds but Guv declined the moneys on his own without consulting with the legislature ( they represent the people , right?) and ignoring the fact that the people of Florida voted for this project a few years ago.

He has also stopped the statewide task force that was cracking down on pill mills, what is he thinking?

He is also trying to pay teachers on the merit system, going against tried and true practices

What have we voted into office? A dictator? An oligarchy? This state is going to be for big business and the working stiff is going to get……………………well ,stiffed

No, Iam not with the rail company, nor am I a teacher it is bad enough to put up with politicians that are out of touch, now we have to put up with one who has his own agenda and is very vague about what that agenda is.

Hello world!

ladies, gentlemen, hosts of the planet ,we will be discussing ( can you discuss on a blog since we are not speaking per say?   hmmm already have a conundrum) many subjects here, nothing is sacred or taboo however I will not stand for boorishness, trash talk ( again its not talk its writing ) or uncivilized behavior or as the British would WRITE , behaviour.

My main course of writing is an auto advise column, kind of Dear Abby for cars but every time I try to inject some humor or political discourse the editors get their red pencils out, the bastards that they are. So that inspired me to get my own blog so I can expound on whatever is rolling around in my brain , after all we only use 10% of it, might as well try to use more of it.

RECIPE FOR DAILY BLOG

I realize this is like a new toy but instead of doing the Facebook thought of the moment or thought of the day I will just do this instead.

IT’S SO EASY TO JUST LOOK AT THE DAY’S HEADLINES AND MAKE COMMENTS

today’s will be about the radiation coming over to the us shores from Japan. Did they not see this coming?

Why did the Japanese government let the private electric company that owns and services the reactors handle it by themselves with the usual veil of secrecy?

This corporation has a DOCUMENTED history of subterfuge , lies and coverups.

The government and the international atomic federation should have had monitors in there from the beggining overseeing the rescue effort, now its a bit too late isnt it?

How much residual damage will be incurred in the next three to five years?
