Restaurant Reviews for Boynton Beach and Las Olas: April 9-10, 2011

First we will review Two Georges in Boynton Beach thanks to one of my customers who invites me and the missus to dinner every year before he heads back up. Thanks, Arthur.

Great location — right next to the Ocean Avenue bridge. Has free valet parking, but you have to endure a maze to get to it.

Has boat docks for those that want to come in on the water.

Raucous atmosphere, 2 large bars  (one with live music), but family friendly.

Seafood/Caribbean flair, salads, sandwiches, dinner entrees. Did not have raw bar offerings, surprisingly.

Excellent cocktails, priced moderately.

We had slider burgers, Thai shrimp appetizer, snapper, and conch salad. Everything was okay, nothing spectacular, but nothing bad either. Service was good considering how busy they were.

Will we return? Yes!

Next we will review Big City Tavern in Las Olas:

Went on a Sunday afternoon to meet my sister and brother-in-law for drinks, wound up having dinner.

Location north side of Las Olas across the street from the Riverside Hotel. Busy, bustling street, with lots of people watching possible. Walkers, joggers, bicyclists, dog walkers, strollers families, couples on dates. Best to park behind the north side of the street where the parking lot charges $5 for the entire day — in case you want to go strolling afterwards.

Busy bar, trendy, young professionals — a bit noisy but not overbearing.

Drinks a bit pricey, some of the food was moderate in price, some was a bit high ($24.00 for an 8 oz. steak).

We had two snapper dishes, both very good. Three appetizers: calamari was good, tomato and mozzarella salad was drowned in balsamic, and the meatballs were tasteless. Of two steak dishes that were ordered, one had to be sent back for warm up because it was cold to the touch. Dessert was very good.

Service was sporadic. I asked the waiter for separate check and he brought me a check for the whole table. The waiter was gone for 15-20 minutes at a time. The wait staff did not want to put together a table for six, they wanted to cubbyhole us in a circular booth which we did not want.

Will we return?  Maybe.
