I was tagged by my daughter, Ily Goyanes, who is also an author, to participate in The Next Big Thing Blog Hop. So, thanks for the tag…now I get to answer ten questions about my current work in progress. Fun, fun, fun. Read on to find out more about the book I’m currently working on — a sequel to Miami Beat: A Jose Castillo Mystery.
What is the working title of the book?
The working title is Miami Beat II, but that won’t be the real title.
Where did the idea come from for the book?
Follow up/sequel to Miami Beat, a Jose Castillo mystery.
What is the genre of the book?
Detective murder mystery.
Which actors would I choose to play the characters in a movie rendition?
Andy Garcia as Jose, Gwyneth Paltrow as his girlfriend Kat, and Samuel Jackson as Nate, Jose’s policeman buddy.
What is the one-sentence synopsis of the book?
A mystery about murder, the Russian mafia, and South Beach.
Will the book be self-published or represented by an agency/publisher?
It will be published by a publisher, Ampersand Editions.
How long did it take me to write the first draft of the manuscript?
Three months. Not to sound arrogant but I do not do drafts, I write as I go along and I let my editor tweak for clarity and flow, but what I write is already what I intend to publish.
What other books would I compare this story to within the genre?
Any Robert Parker Spenser book.
Who or what inspired you to write this book?
Well, obviously my first book, which was inspired by my wife.
What else about your book might pique the reader’s interest?
The characters are appealing and very likable; the story is set in South Florida, the “latin” flavor and the mystery, of course. My main character Jose Castillo is always at odds with doing the right thing even though it might go against conventional wisdom or societal mores, so that makes for interesting reading.
